Description of Millbrook in 1874
Millbrook in 1874
Published in the Kendall County Record, March 19, 1874.
Edited and compiled by Elmer Dickson
Your correspondent and partner enjoyed the hospitality of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Budd. Mr. Budd talked in a quiet way of his hopes and plans for Millbrook. He has accomplished much and we have every reason to believe that much more will be done. Millbrook has sprung into existence within the past thirty months. A hotel, dry goods store, drugstore, tinshop, harness shop, hay press, machine shops, a warehouse and several houses have been built. More are to be built immediately.
Mr. Budd began the town alone, but his brothers are now more or less engaged with him. He is continually drawing good citizens who work together harmoniously. If they only had a canal or a narrow-gauge railroad, they might compete with their sister town (Millington.)
