Death of Chester M. Swift

Another of Plano's esteemed citizens has been called home. Chester M. Swift, son of Thomas and Eunice Swift, was born in Little Rock Township January 23, 1844. He was united in marriage to Marshia Aldrich on March 3, 1864 in Plano, where they made their home. To this union five children were born: Myrtle, wife of James Hopkins who passed away four years ago; William Swift; Ellie Swift; Mrs. Minnie Thomas; and Mabel Swift now living in Chicago. One brother Lester Swift of Aurora and the widow survive him. They mourn the loss of a kind and indulgent father and husband. The deceased underwent a severe operation in St. Charles Hospital, Aurora a few weeks ago, from which he did not recover. He passed away at the hospital Friday morning at 8:00 o'clock.

Early in 1865 he enlisted in the army serving only five months. The funeral was held at the Methodist Church on Sunday, Rev. H. E. Sweitzer officiating. The Masonic Lodge had charge of the services, Mr. Swift had been a member of the order over forty years. The remains were taken back to the home to await the arrival of the son Will, from the west. Interment was made Monday afternoon at 3:30, the Woodmen were in charge of graveside services. The G. A. R. and W. R. C., of which Mrs. Swift is an active member, attended in a body.
