Naming of Yorkville, Illinois

Solomon Heustis who was one of the founders of Yorkville, Illinois came from a suburb of New York City called Yorkville. It is believed that Solomon gave Yorkville its name.

Edward W. Brewster was an eastern business associate of Rulief S. Duryea one of the first settlers in Kendall County. Brewster entered the land where the original village of Yorkville was located, June 2, 1843. In 1836, Duryea had laid out a part of Yorkville on top of the hill. No record of the latter exists in Kendall County. In 1836, the Yorkville site was part of LaSalle County. If a plat was filed and survived it would be found in Ottawa, county seat of LaSalle County.
